We are delighted to announce that Reid Monroe-Sheridan joined the firm as partner and Yu Mizutani and Ryosuke Gando joined the firm as associates on March 1, 2024.

Reid Monroe-Sheridan

Reid is a New York-qualified corporate lawyer with experience spanning cross-border mergers and acquisitions, venture financing and commercial agreements, as well as U.S. securities and public company matters. Reid began his legal career in the New York and Tokyo offices of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, where he focused on capital markets and M&A matters. In 2014, Reid established his own firm in Tokyo, Monroe-Sheridan Foreign Law Office, expanding his practice to include venture capital matters and international commercial agreements. Reid practiced through Monroe-Sheridan Foreign Law Office until joining southgate, handling a broad spectrum of corporate and commercial matters that includes both cross-border as well as domestic U.S. M&A, venture financing, and commercial transactions.

Reid is also an Associate Professor at Keio Law School, where his current and past courses have covered cross-border M&A, startup and venture capital law (a class he co-teaches with Eric Marcks), international capital markets, and international business contracts.

Reid received his undergraduate degree from Carleton College and his law degree from Harvard Law School.

Yu Mizutani

Yu is an experienced New York-qualified corporate lawyer. He began his career in the New York and Tokyo offices of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, where he worked with issuers and underwriters in the United States and Japan on a wide range of equity, debt and derivatives transactions. Before joining southgate, Yu worked at Monroe-Sheridan Foreign Law Office in Tokyo on capital markets transactions, cross-border M&A and other general corporate matters.

Yu received his undergraduate and law degrees from Cornell University.

Ryosuke Gando

Ryosuke is a Japan-qualified attorney who practices in the areas of domestic and cross-border M&A, start-up investments, corporate law, securities regulations, and other general corporate matters. Ryosuke practiced law at Keiwa Sogo Law Offices before joining us.
